Depressing Summer

43 degrees in the shade

Dear treasured readers,

I apologize first and foremost for not being active on my blog and on yours lately. In fact I haven't been active in any social network for weeks if not months now. It is like I am going through a phase or a spell and I can only hope it will go away soon.

You see, summer in Dubai was never a good thing for me and it still is not after all these years. Instead of looking forward to summer, the thought of having to go through it for 5 to 6 months just drag me down.  This summer is no difference than the last but this year it seems to have more reasons to make my spirits sank. The news like of the downing of the Malaysia Airlines flight MH17, Taiwan's GE222 and Algeria's AH5017, the crisis in Gaza and Iraq, the landslide in India and  the Ebola outbreak in Africa, just to mention a few, simply add heaviness to this gloomy summer of mine. I can only hope and pray that all the crisis and suffering the world is facing will go away or get better as the days will get better for me.. in time.

  1. I feel quite sad when I look at the news as well...It is impossible not to feel with all those people who suffer. I think it's quite normal to feel down at times, especially when times are hard. It really makes me feel bad when I think about all those who suffer, who have lost somebody they love...how tragic this world is at times!...but there is always hope as they say.

I've been trough a lot this year but still I feel somehow lighter these days...perhaps I've just learned to go with it, not analyze myself too much, or something like that...

  3. These are scary times, the political climate is volatile, and it's ordinary people who are just minding their own business who always pay the heaviest price. And all these disasters, accidents and acts of terror make us feel so small and helpless. I am scared, thinking about where this world is going, but at the same time determined to get on with my life and focus on the positive. Maybe it's naive...

    1. Yes, that was my thought exactly.. the normal people like us who just want to life at peace, loving our family, raise kids that suffer he most.. it is just horrible when travelling with your loved ones turned into a disaster just because some decided to go to war and be trigger happy. Or normal people, neighbors got stuck between conflicts of 2 countries.. just sad

  5. I'm so sorry to hear that you're going through such a down time, Ida! You're a tenderhearted person so you are deeply touched by the hurts that so many around the world are suffering. Like others, I believe that there is hope, but I believe that our hope is in a loving God who is still in control even when it seems that our world is in utter chaos.

  6. You have my absolute and unlimited sympathy. We all miss you, of course, but want you to take care of yourself and your psyche. I've thought of you kids with the recent airlines disasters, and besides the wars and natural (?) disasters everywhere, as a news and political junkie, I'm never very far from complete dismay myself. Dan and I are, for the first time in our adult lives, limiting the number of hours of national and international news we follow, and although we're no strangers to goofing on pure entertainment, we are seeking out more comedy and less drama. We'll keep staying informed, but I'm less apt to read a lot about issues these hot summer days. I do know change is always happening, and it's just as likely to be good as bad. And because I'm old and remember the old days with much less technology, I can attest that we hear about everything much faster and in more detail than every before, and a lot more of all of it as well.
I'm behind on everything right now ... too many projects and in our busy season. So I get it. I'm not really a summer kind of person either.
Hang in there, kiddo. Come back when you want to show us what you're wearing or just what you're thinking! We'll be here!

    1. I think I should do as you, limit my CNN and all news channel. Maybe I should go to the theater instead

  7. We miss you but take your time to get through your hump. Spend time with your loved ones and turn off the tv so you can limit your exposure to all the news.

  8. You need to take some time for yourself and give yourself a break. There has been a lot of awful and scary things happening out there that you just can't get your head around. Take it easy and try to relax a little.

I can certainly relate; it's all very upsetting indeed. I wish I have some magic potion to just make it go away. All I can say is just take your time, spend time with your boys. We'll still be here when you're ready :)

  11. I know what you mean, Dubai during the "summer" (which is really like half the year as you mentioned) is a downer, especially by this time of year when it's at it's most miserable with no end in sight. The news doesn't help. Hang in there!

  14. We understand...sometimes you just need a break. We miss you, but come back when you're ready. Send a little of that heat our way, it is raining horizontally here and has been for all of August. Terrible weather. The grass is always greener...

  16. Oh dear. Seems your defenses have gone down too much. All the bad things happening in the world, go to my soul too deep as well. I cannot function if I let it come too near. Just want to disappear from this world. So I have guarded my soul by f.i. not reading the newspapers or watching the news on TV. You might think I am hiding or that I don't know what is going on in the world, well far from it. I do my bit to make this world a better place and somehow the really big news comes to me anyway. Via radio, friends, social media. But I really have to protect myself otherwise I go down the gloomy road too. Hope you will find some more happiness soon. And that it becomes a bit cooler.

    1. Thanks for your words, Greetje.. I guess since I am stuck indoor mostly in summer with nothing else to do, I tend to watch a lot of TV and the news are always the favorite.. and that does not help but I am beginning to channel my attention to something else the past few weeks.. I workout and try out new recipes :)

  17. I completely understand .. I decided to take a break from the news as I cannot continue to start my day by watching the complete inhumanity of our species.

  18. Very late in my comments but nevertheless wish that you've bounced back and have found other "distractions" to keep your mind and self busy.

Too much heat is tough. And I thought I could take it all in stride coming from the Philippines. But here in Sacramento, fun summer means just tons of morning activities and then we rush to go home around lunch time, get my son ready for a nap and just stay indoors the rest of the afternoon as the hottest part of the day is late afternoon. So if I don't watch the time and failed to plan for something in the morning, it means we stay indoors the whole day and go out to the backyard around dinner time.

The Malaysia Airlines situation is very unsettling too. My son and I are flying to the Philippines next month and even if you try not to think about it, it crops up in the back of your mind as it's another long haul flight. But we soldier on and move on with our daily lives. Take care Mrs. C!
