To LIFE! - Sleek and Crisp

In our daily life, we often get caught in the wants rather than need.  Some of us want designer outfit from head to toe, others want a fabulous seaside property, or a bigger sportier car, 5 carats diamond rings and one thousand and one more wants that we can come up with, that we tend to loose the bigger picture that is, to be able to enjoy the wants we have to have one thing that we need most - good health.

Last week, Hollywood superstar Angelina Jolie has shockingly revealed that she had undergone a double mastectomy to prevent breast cancer after her doctors calculated that she had an 87 percent risk for it.  Such a brave move. It made me think that how many of us took our own health for granted?  In our busy daily lives it is easy to forget or brush aside totally the importance of a regular check ups and tests that could save our lives.  After the age of 40, women are more open to breast cancer risks but with that said, this does not mean you are 100% safe if you are under 40.  Breast cancer can attack anyone of us, bigger risk if we have the established risk factors like family history, genetic, lack of exercise, alcohol consumption and smoking, to name a few.

I had a scare a few years ago when my doctor found a suspicious cluster in one of my breast during a regular check up. We decided to go ahead with a biopsy just to make sure it was not cancerous.  It was a stressful time in my life but I am glad I went for the check up and did the biopsy that later determined that it was not a cancer cell.  Through this experience I learned to be more aware of my breasts and follow up with my 6 monthly check up religiously until now.  If you haven't done any check up or has been missing on your regular visit to the doctor, please make time to do so.. it could safe your lives.

So, this week I decided to dedicate this outfit post to this courageous and beautiful woman Angelina Jolie.  Jolie has always been known for her classic style.  She's mostly comfortable in her blacks, whites and greys but once in a while she'd shine in colors.  I chose this outfit above as an inspiration of this week's outfit because of its simple clean lines and crisp white that in my opinion she does so well.  Also it gives me a chance to feature once again my white cotton blazer that I love so much! This is truly a Spring/Summer staple as it is light and made of breathable cotton and the color white is such an icon for the season.

  1. Oh, you look so chic in white! Really really love this outfit on you!!
I DO take a lot for granted...especially my health. The word 'cancer' is almost like a death sentence to me. I lost my mom & my grandfather to cancer. Always in the back of my mind but preferring to keep it there. I'm glad Jolie came out with her story. It has encouraged many conversation about the dreaded disease.

  16. I truly admire Angelina and all the good charity work she does and I hope thanks to her, more women will be aware and get inspired. I haven't had any mammogram yet as I'm below 40 but being adopted and not having any medical history to rely on, I do feel I perhaps should not wait until next year! Lovely outfit as always! X

  21. Not only to take this step but also to make it public is very brave and I admire Angelina that she did it. Like you and Olga I think that will make many women think about precaution. And more it will encourage many women in the same situation to agree their body as it is, without breast, and not to hide themselves because of shame.
You do an wonderful interpretion of Angelinas great style. You too look marvellous in classy white.

  22. I think Angelina did an important step to make other women being more cautious and going to a routine to get their breasts checked. Very brave and it jus shows that she is not such a great style icon but witha great ambassador function for others.

Mrs C I really think you mastered to look so fabulous in this white ensemble, its clean and simply chic.

  26. I agree that she is very brave for doing so but how many more cancers can she have? Honestly, if they calculate risk of you developing a skin cancer at 95%, whatcha gonna do then?
I'm all for preventive medicine and trying to do our best but removing BOTH your breasts only because there is a chance, is kind of too much I think. My personal opinion.

    1. I agree with you in some point, I guess she decided to do so because of the number. 87% is really high, it is like at some point of her life she will have breast cancer. If she were to have 50/50 chance maybe she'll take the chance and keep her breast, who knows? :)

I had a similar scare and all was well, but it's kept my awareness high. My worry has been being able to afford treatment ... that's what I regard as the next important step. Every woman needs access to healthcare.

  44. Angelina is one exceptional woman.....I admire her choices even though they might seem stupid at a certain time. She has proven once again that her beauty is not skin deep & I'm so happy to see that her love affair with Brad Pitt has moved up to another level with the mastectomy. Thanks for this post Mrs. C.....it's such an eye opener at a time when we take a lot of more important things for granted.
