Summer is definitely approaching us here in Dubai. Everywhere I look I can see the tell tale of it. The most prominent one is of the gardener coming in twice a day to water the plants. My household is slowly but surely starting to prepare for the harsh season. Do you have checklist of things to do before summer? If yes, what are they? Here are mine :
1) Move all garden furniture indoor or cover them so that they will not rot in the summer heat.
2) Make sure we service the air-conditioning system so that it would not fail on us in the middle of summer!
3) Upgrade or get better Sky TV deals/entertainment packages. God forbid if we are stuck indoor with 50 degrees Celsius plus 75% humidity outside and nothing to watch but re-runs of Love Boat episodes!
4) Switch off all water heaters. We don't need water heaters when the water than runs through bathrooms and kitchen is as hot as boiling water. Instead we need water cooler for utility purposes.. hmm, is there such a thing?
5) Bring out all my fabulous maxis or get more especially the ones with bright colors!
Out of all, I love number 5 the best. Well, what's there not to love about maxis? I got this electric blue maxi last summer and it was one of last year's best buys. It can be dressed up or down and I especially love the slits on both sides that add movement to this already soft chiffon. Frankly I prefer the easy laidback take on this dress by pairing it with simple denim jacket and glittery sandals for more casual spring/summer look.
Well, summer can be a dread but I would rather braze through summer in something as fabulous as maxis! Are you stocking up on maxi this spring/summer?

This is one gorgeopus Maxi, it looks great with the Light Denim Blazer. I like the fading on that Blazer. The Sandals are too cute also. Cannot believe such a beautiful piece is from Forever 21. I can't wait to see what you wear/style for My Birthday there Mrs C.
ReplyDeleteP.S. What is your first name?
Ohhh and I hope my latest post on Vivian makes you smile. She is a Pretty Happy Baby when she is not crying. ;-)
Fabulous!! I really love your maxi dress!
ReplyDeleteI was laughing about your no. 1 as finally we can get out or garden furniture which we have to cover or store inside over the winter...

Maxi's are wonderful. Figure flattering when properly fitted and easily accessorized. You have done a wonderful job of coordinating all the elements. I never thought to pair with a denim jacket...hmmmm...

That is a gorgeous color and shape for your summer maxi dress. Your heat is hotter than our (Florida) heat! I can see why the a/c check-up is a must. Thanks for sharing your great look with Visible Monday.

Hi there! I love your maxi, it's a gorgeous shade of blue and a lovely cut and style! I thrifted a floral one on Friday, I love maxis and will try and get more as I find them!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a pretty look on you! I love that shade of blue on you.:) I can't even imagine how hot it must get there, plus the humidity. Yikes! Yes, definitely stock up on maxi dresses.

I'm a long-time maxi lover and that's a beauty! Love the denim jacket and bejewelled sandals, too. It's been too long since I was last in sandals! xxx
ReplyDeleteLove your maxi and I find that they're the most comfortable items to wear in hot weather. Had to laugh at your list -- I was out yesterday in the backyard covering the summer furniture for exactly the same reason. It's over 100 F today in Scottsdale, AZ, so I know the pain of a long, hot summer. We don't get your kind of humidity although the months of July, August, and September are much more humid than other months. Stay cool, girlfriend!
ReplyDeleteHeather from Friendship, Life and Style
I think the humidity is due to our vicinity to the sea. We are a block away from the beach. Nice during the winter but hell during the summer!
Deletelove the monochromatic look.

Blue and Breezy! Amazing color on this maxi!
ReplyDelete-ileana
I totally need to get more maxis - love the long flowy look!
ReplyDeleteIt seems I don't wear them enough! I have a few long floaty skirts, but I prefer them for fall with sweaters and tights ... tops are a challenge for me for very hot weather. I'm looking forward to wearing some pretty high-low dresses during the heat and humidity here.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to heat the water for our restaurant dish-washer from the roof pipes! We never seem to be able to use the heat to our advantage!
You look as cool and refreshing as a Blue Curacao cocktail! Lovely dress and treatment.
Aaahhh, Blue Curacoa..those were the days! The water gets really hot here during the summer. I hate washing my face with piping hot water, so I normally have a bucket on the side to cool the water before using on my face :) Imagine the pain!
Deletehi Mrs C, you look so pretty and fresh, love this maxi dress and it suits well with the denim jacket. btw, thanks a lot for always dropping by in my blog, really appreciate your comments. maybe if u have time, and if our schedule permits, we can set a date and meet all other bloggers.i think it's gonna be fun. looking forward to that. stay in touch.
ReplyDeleteKisses,

That sounds like a great idea, will get in touch soon :)
DeleteLooking beautiful, as ever in your gorgeous maxi dress. Can't wait to see the more colorful ones you mentioned, as well. I only have one, but you've inspired me to go shopping straight away!
ReplyDeleteYour dress is such a beautiful shade of blue! It looks lovely on you and perfect for the summer heat. I can't wear maxis, they get caught in my wheels, but I do love to buy trendy pieces from Forever 21 ;-)
ReplyDeleteSpashionista (Alicia)
F 21 is like a treasure island.. look hard and you'll find some nice pieces :)
Delete50 degrees Celsius? Dont' people just spontaneously combust at that temperature? LOL It is funny because here we spend our whole summer outside. I imagine for you that is the total opposite.
ReplyDeleteThat maxi is beautiful on you. The colour is stunning.
bisous

We run from the car to the house and vice-versa.. that's why Dubai is filled with malls :)

Very pretty. The jacket and sandals go so well with this dress. And the belt and bag add another colour. Well done. I have not got any maxi dress. Somehow I have not spotted them. Could be my fault.
ReplyDeleteAs for your preparations... I had to laugh. Almost everything you do for summer we do for winter:
move all the garden furniture in the shed so it won't rot in winter, service the heating system so we won't freeze because it stops working in the middle of winter, (I don't have to upgrade TV as it never gets that harsh in Holland. We have a mild climate), switch off the water taps outside so it won't freeze. See? Almost everything you do but for the opposite reason.
Well, left or right we still have to do this routine at least once a year ;)
DeleteHmm Dubai, now there's an exotic place I have never been too :). Thank you for stopping by pret-a-vivre, your mix of the denim jacket and maxi dress is very nice, casual, sporty yet classy. I love it!

What a beautiful dress! Haha Dubai seems similar to South Africa because people prefer the spring and fall since it is cooler, but I still love the summer!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.themirroronthewall.com/
I really need to buy a maxi dress soon in preparation for summer! Unfortunately, we still have wintery weather here once in a while and so I´m still at loss wether to bring out the spring-summer clothes or not. :(
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I love this color so much. It's a maxi skirt/dress kind of day isn't it? :) Thanks for linking up!
ReplyDeleteLooks like it, Alison ;) Must be the heat.. LOL!

Yes, Ginny.. it get pretty hot in the summer. But we are quite surprise this year we are getting rain in the middle of April which never happened in my 9 years here. The temp is actually going slightly down these past couple of days..

One of the interesting things about blogs is learning more about different countries. I really love learning more about your life in Dubai. Things like hot running water, and bringing in the patio furniture in the summer is so foreign to me. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteYou always look so fresh and cool! Heavens, I don't know how you do it. Today, you look simply gorgeous. That shade of blue is absolutely beautiful. The proportions of jacket versus dress is very flattering. I must try a maxi this summer. I'm short, and I haven't found just the right one yet. Cute sandals too, by the way.
Sue xo
Thank you, Sue. I am 'vertically challenged' too! So what I did was to look for ankle length dresses and they'll hit us just right! This dress is suppose to be an ankle length on the model but on me, viola!
DeleteI love your dress - I hope I can find one like it sometime. =) You're super gorgeous.
