My relationship with the big C

A friend posted this very funny statement on Facebook and it made me think that somehow that statement is quite true.  Most of us are on a constant battle with calorie.  Some even claim that it is a no win battle!  I remember when I was in my 20s, I could eat the whole lorry of chips for lunch and a tub of Haagen Dazs for dessert and still weighted a comfortable 48 kilos.  I was oblivious to calorie and did not understand what the fuss was all about when I heard the moan and groan of some friends about their love hate relationship with food, calories and weight gain.  Fast forward 15 years and 3 kids later, I reluctantly joined them.   Sometimes I silently wish that calorie would have an off day so that I could gobble down what I want.   Me and Captain even have a game we called ‘If calorie could not exist in one food what would it be?’  I became obsessed with eating right; keeping fit and the whole nine yards because eating freely without having trouble fitting in my favorite pair of jeans was not in my book anymore.  And through this obsession I found some great tips that can be followed and if we are persistent enough it could become a good lifestyle.

Studies have shown that those who keep food diary stay better in shape and health generally.  It makes them aware of what they eat and how much they had.  So, I tried this for a while and guess what?  It really worked!  By jotting down what I ate, and how much I consumed I realized how much I battered my body unnecessarily.  Come on, admit it, moderation is good and after seeing what I ate, I couldn’t justify myself anymore.  I gained weight because I had a little too much of that lasagna, chips or vanilla shake!  So, automatically I began to slow down and saw results.  Now I advanced forward with a website called My Fitness Pal www.myfitnesspal.com   This website helps me keep track of how many calories I consume and how much I actually need to stay healthy and fit.  I’ve been on it for about 5 months and now out of habit and experience, I can sort of estimate how much calories I consume in a plate without having to log in the website.  The best bit, you can have this application on your iPhone too, so you can keep track while on the go!

Yes, there are some lucky souls out there that can still eat anything on the face of earth at 40 years or more and still look like Heidi Klum but most of us are not.  Getting older, loosing metabolism and all that are parts of life but who says we can't slow down process?  : )

  2. i am too lazy for a food diary and in university, it is really difficult to eat healthy with a meal plan. since we are always so busy, we just pick up whatever is the most convenient. i'm trying for sure though but it is just simply not easy.

    1. I understand your frustration.. maybe you can slowly start making mental note while deciding what to eat.. a bit of fibre, green, red, protien and you are set. The fat is the main culprit, so be aware. Other than that for a Uni student, you burn just by running around campus :)

  3. wow I was reading your posts and I found this one! You are tottaly right! We can slow down the process! Everything, I think, is about education! We must educate ourselves to ear what is necessary, healthy and tasty (and not just tasty)! Well, I was bulimic (and I'm not proud of this)! But now I see how much I was wrong! Today, I'm trying to eat healthy food (sometimes I fail hahahah) in the correct quantity!

    Have a amazing upcoming week!

    1. Dear Cri, thank you for dropping by and may I say I am glad that you are now on track from where you were. It is better to eat than not, so try all we can and leave the rest. I myself am trying to eat healthy so that I can be there for my children as long as I can :) But one thing for sure effort pays!

      xoxo
