Trend : The Jeans Report - Ripped No More

I was in a book store one day catching up on my weekly free read when I overheard a young couple chatting while flipping through some fashion magazines. I didn't mean to eavesdrop but they were quite loud so I couldn't help it. Basically the guy just could not understand how fickle and unstable trend can be. They were discussing how one time she went crazy with the ripped jeans trend and now she was thinking of patching them up! It was quiet amusing actually, I was trying so hard to stifle a giggle. I knew right then that I had to do a piece on this trend they were talking about.

I must have been in my cocoon too long that I actually missed this news.. cool jeans are ripped no more! So, I went home and did some research, start looking through Pinterest and there they were, hundreds of them. Honestly, in my opinion, this trend can be kind of cool if done properly meaning it should look like you really are trying to salvage your favorite pair of jeans and had it done yourself like the one in the last picture. It oozes the right amount of laid-back bohemian/hippy flair that I love. The moment it start looking like the patch quilt, then I seriously feel it is overdone and a big NO.

Anyway, back to the couple in the bookstore, I can understand how bizarre and incoherent it might be to some on how trend can be so inconsistent and absurd sometimes, but unfortunately that is the funny thing about trend, it is suppose to be that way, always evolving. You either get it or you don't but always take trend with a pinch of salt. Lucky for me Captain seems to have no problem understanding.

Now your turn, what do you think of this patched jeans trend? Does your man 'dig' the ups and down of trend? I would love to hear your story so do tell! :)

  1. Fashion and the ever changing trends can be so overwhelming and very damaging to our wallets if we try to keep up. It might take a few hard lessons for that person in the store to realize that you don't have to keep up with all the trends rather establish your own personal style/signature look and not give damn.

    1. True or just make do with what we have and improvised. Some take trend too seriously and turned to be the trend slave. The best is stick to what's best for you!

  3. Hmm... I must be behind the times too! I hadn't noticed this trend yet and I don't think it's one that I'll likely follow. The pair in the 4th picture, with the hiking boots, do look quite cute for casual wear though.

  4. I really like this trend; I'm just not sure if I'm willing to fork over the money for it though, haha. I might have to dig out my old painting jeans and try to DIY just to see if it'll work on me :)

  5. I love this trend! It's a bit more demure than showing skin through ripped jeans ( well, there you have it .. showing my age !! ) LoL.

Anyway, I give the patched up jeans - two thumbs up !!

  7. I'm still in love with the ripped ones, the patched ones are tricky as there are too many colors n patterns involved.

  8. Hmm, maybe we shouldn't be so quick to dismiss a man's opinion... Not that they'd know anything about women's fashion, but they do tend to react positively to something that flatters a woman's body... And no, no ripped or patched anything for me, ever. But I am a self-proclaimed snob: I want to look glam, even rich. Call it aspirational dressing...

  9. You're so right - keeping up with trends can be exhausting! I usually just wear what I like and what I'm comfortable in :)

  10. I like patches. In Japan, we have this tradition of patching things up to strengthen them and also to prolong their life. We use a method called Sashiko where things are painstakingly put back together stitch by stitch. It is so cool and intricate xx I wrote about it here if you would like to see? http://www.worshipblues.com/2014/06/photo-diary-layers-lace-and-lake.html

  14. My husband knows just enough of trends. Meaning, he is not so aware of trends that you start thinking oohh, this is strange haha.
As for this new look... Not too keen. I know It takes a while before I warm to a trend (...) but this looks a bit childish....
