Trend - The 'Boring' White Button Down

Old news. White button down on women has been existing since the movies were running black and white. Then Audrey Hepburn came and stamp it firmly on the scene when she appeared in hers paired with a pair of capri pants and ballerina flats. Fashion world were reeling and suddenly the 'boring' white button down became an all time must have. Me, I never turned my back from this simple piece when I saw Julia Roberts wearing one in the movie Pretty Woman, making that cheap mini skirt she wore it with looked like a million bucks! To me it is the easiest piece of clothing to pair with and I just cannot stop buying! One can never go wrong with it, be it casual or polished. It never fail to look chic which ever way you pair it with - over a pair of shorts, jeans, pencil skirt or even the long elegant glittery skirt as Sharon Stone once wore to the Oscar! If I must have only one item in my closet, it definitely have to be this boring white button down shirt. Okay enough of me babbling, now you, what do you think of white button down?

  2. It is a great piece for people with nice, golden skin tone... But if your natural colouring is pasty white, better steer clear. My face needs a bit more colour around it, too much white makes me look like I'm in the late stages of some dangerous disease, or then you cannot distinguish me from the wall... I've always envied people who can wear a lot of white without breaking it up with another colour.

    1. Haha! You always crack me, Tiina.. never fail to make my day! I totally understand you.. it is the same relationship I have with yellow and certain shades of green :) But I kind of do well with white :)

  3. You wear this look well, I know. The Carolina Herrera signature look is one I've always wanted to emulate. But it looks most delicate and cool on women with less boobage, I'm sad to say. And a real length of torso. I periodically look for just the right shirt, but never find one that flatters. But I can admire, and these are marvelous looking women in these ... I enjoyed looking!
Hope you're feeling better, and so glad to see you back!

    1. Oh, I love Carolina's white shirt style.. she's so classy and timeless! I too have the same problem with 'boobsies' The gaping is so unflattering especially on fitted ones. My favorites are the men's button down.. fits me the best :) Thanks Jan, for your comforting words

  8. It's a classic piece of item in everyone's closet. I remember wearing a lot of white button downs when I was still working.

Now I rarely wear one and immediately reach for something with color in my wardrobe. Although yesterday I wore a white long sleeved blouse which is the closest thing I've worn similar to a button down.
