Travel Food!

As I always say, what is travelling without the food!  Along our journey from LA to SF, we sampled many, some were good and some were nothing worth mentioning.  Here I'd like to share with you some of the highlights of my taste bud during the trip.  Enjoy!

Classic Margarita with burrata cheese at Olio Pizzeria in West Hollywood, LA. After 2 years in a row, we can almost call ourselves a regular ;) According to Captain (native Italian) it is unusual for burrata to make an appearance on pizzas but it works fabulously, so fabulous we have been fans ever since! Burrata is a type of fresh soft cheese made from mozzarella and cream from the south of Italy. Sinful? Oh, yes but it is yummilicious!

I'm all for spicy food (well, I am Asian, it's in the gene!) and so is Captain, so when we saw these hot sauces in a small shop at The Grove Farmers Market in LA, we had to try them! They couldn't come up with better names, could they? ;)

Casanova Restaurant in Carmel by the Sea - Don't be fooled by the exterior, inside is a heaven for foodies! A must try if you're ever in town.

A friend of ours in LA recommended that we stop by this Italian/Mediterranean restaurant called Casanova in Carmel and it turned out to be one of the best restaurants we tried on this trip!  The artisan bread sticks with sun-dried tomato and capers dip was amazing!

One of the best appetizers I tried on this trip was this grilled artichoke at Casanova

In the middle of nowhere just outside Big Sur, we found this little place called River's Inn.  I am not going to comment on the food but the setting and ambiance was just stunning.  Perfect for a small  and intimate wedding ceremony.

Fire place in the middle of River's Inn restaurant, nice to sip some hot drinks while listening to the crackling of the fire.

Betelnut, Malaysian fusion restaurant in San Francisco.  It was so good we were there 2 nights in a row and it was packed both nights! Reservation recommended to be on the safe side.

I was curious, so I ordered the Laksa. The verdict - heavenly considering it was in San Francisco and they had to substitute some of the ingredients. Captain had the Grilled Chilly Squids over a bed of fancy herb salad and I had the same the next night. Yes, it was that good!  Left and right I saw guests ordering Roti Canai, so should be good too.

Finally, the Scallop and Seaweed salad at Emirates First Class Lounge before we boarded and head back home.  It was surprisingly and utterly gorgeous!  I had a few platters to myself and nothing else!

  9. The best thing with travelling is definitely the food! It looks fantastic! Those hot sauces look interesting, perhaps something I should recommend to hubby who is very much into spicy food whereas I, despite being born in Korea, prefer "milder" food!

  16. Aaahhh this post made me feel hungry and I just ate! Those Chilli sauces are cute, but I'd be a little wary considering the warning for how hot they promise to be. *wink*
