Last Friday night, my dear friend Pia celebrated her 40th birthday with a fabulous party bearing the 80s era theme. I got super excited when I first read the invitation and had a whole lot of fun going shopping for some pieces for me to channel my 80s style. I was aiming for Paula Abdul/Duran-Duran baggy pants look back in the 80s and wished I could have found a more colorful bomber jacket instead but this one from H&M was close. The pants were my favorite. The polka-dots were spot on and even if I may not use them anymore (maybe around the house as they were very comfortable!) they were perfect for the party.
You see, I spent most of my significant years in the 80s (I was between 10 and 20 during that decade) and they hold a lot of great memories. I remember perfectly sporting a mullet, silly shoulder pads, fish nets and leg warmers over a pair of colorful leggings while dancing at some local discotheques. I had to have my hair permed to achieve that perfect mullet look ala Sheena Easton as my hair was so straight and boy, did I look ridiculous but honestly, I would trade anything just to re-live those days again and last Friday was a huge treat! Happy Birthday, Pia! Welcome to the big 40 club!
The 80's were the best! Loved your outfit!

Perfect 80's look! I had the Sheena Easton haircut/perm too... ;-)
ReplyDeleteYou too?? Hahaha! It was hot back then ;)
DeleteI'm a child of the 90ties myself, but I do love the 80ties! It was such a great time in terms of fashion/music and everything. Great outfit, I really love it!
ReplyDeleteyes, those were the years when music was still MUSIC!
DeleteI like yur outfit. xa

Yay 80s! I remembered the shoulder pads and leg warmers and baggy mc hammer pants. I loved them all :) i looked ridiculous back then, but same here, i dont mind re-living them, i had loads of fun.
ReplyDeleteWe all did look ridiculous, Jane but back then we were so oblivious to that fact! ;)
DeleteI love this 80's get up! It's so fabulous! I've been to one or two 80's themes parties but never manage to look as chic as you. I always go for the Madonna type look. Fishnets, neon, leg warmers, all those over the top pieces and crimped hair. Oh and the blue eyeshadow. I was born half way through the 80's so I really got no idea obviously hahaha!

One thing for sure about the 80s, more is always MORE! So your Madonna look was sure a success :)
DeleteFun outfit! Yes 80s were a lot of fun with Madonna and Michael Jackson music.

I was obsesses with Madonna.. my mom went nuts with me playing her songs over and over, lol!
DeleteYou look great. Not too much of an 80s vibe in my opinion. The pants and bomber jacket are great. I like that you kept the look mostly black. =)
ReplyDeleteAnd by the way, I was born in the 80s. =)
DeleteYou are the younger generation, Ada :)
Deletehaha--such a fun look for the party!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great party, and your look is perfect - I remember the 80's with such fondness. Thanks for sharing with Visible Monday!
ReplyDeleteSo fun!! Love the 80s party look. I remember having some pretty awesome floral stirrup pants with oversized tunic tops in the 80s. But my signature was my permed hair with GIANT bangs! LOL.

great party look! I was in grade school in the 80's but those trends still stand out more than any other era.

Yup, it is still one of the gaudiest trends ;)
DeleteOh my gosh, the 80's perms! My hair went out of the frame of the photo on my driver's license picture in that late 80s. Massive corkscrew Cher perm. Hideous. At the time, I thought I was The business though....
ReplyDeletewww.highlandfashionista.com
Hahaha! your comment really cracked me, Kristin! I can imagine you in your massive perm! We were all oblivious.. ignorance is bliss ;)
DeleteThat is the most stylish '80's redo I've seen! You look fabulous! I'd totally wear those pants again, they do look comfy! I too was a teen of the 80's, but being older than you, I was in high school and college - so already a wild child! Madonna to punk - I tried out all the looks in a modest way, but having been brought up in a very, very preppy household I couldn't stray too far (although my parents thought I'd gone over the edge). I miss those days of experimenting and would love to goto an 80's party. Maybe I should have one. And I definitely didn't need a perm, I was too busy trying to get my hair to flatten out - in the days before product and straight irons. Uggh!

Bless the hair iron! :)
DeleteAh, the 80's .. well, I was in high school sporting permed hair for .. far too long (well into the 90's) and when I look at those pics I wonder why I thought curly hair looked good on me ... lol.
ReplyDeletePerfect 80's style .. love those pants!

PS: Happy you can post to my 'repaired' blog ;-)
I still have some pictures of me and that silly hairstyle tucked somewhere in my mom's.. *cringe*
DeleteLove your take on the 80's! So fun! I had the perm too! ~Ann

I guess I was not alone ;)
DeleteI was a stay at home Mom during the 80s so fashion wasn't really a high priority but I do remember stirrup pants and my ridiculous curly perm! I looked like I had a giant Brillo pad on my head!
ReplyDeleteHahaha! You had a perm too? I don't think a perm would look good on anyone!
DeleteA great updated style of the fashionable 80s, my dear!! You look fabulous!!
ReplyDeleteI was 28 to 38 in that decade. I wore all the styles you mentioned - minus the mullet (my daughter Jean had one - lol)
Have a fashionable week!!
♥ carmen
At least one in a family must have a mullet ;)
Deletecute party theme! =) love your take on the outfit.
ReplyDeletexo,
nancy
Thanks, Nancy!
DeleteI think you really nailed the look! You're about 10 years younger than I am. In college I sported a mullet - complete with shaved sideburns - and lots of Madonna-inspired tees, leggings and jewelry. Some of these looks are coming back now LOL!

I remember shaved sideburns! Some of my friends had them... hardcore, Alicia ;)
DeleteVery stylish 80's inspired outfit. I like the pants and cool belt. Pretty necklace. I wore the short spiked hair and mini dresses with legging plus a short flat boot. Those were happy and free days, fun to look back on remember.
ReplyDeleteblue hue wonderland
I really love the way you wore those pants! Looks great with the necklace.
ReplyDeleteSincerely,
Sabrina
Your printed pants are incredible! You look so fierce and I can't get over your jewelry! So gorgeous

Oh yeah...I remember those crazy styles! What fun you must have had - living them and at the party, as well! Most of us have probably done the perm thing at one time or another...then we see pictures and wonder what we were thinking? Glad you had a great time - well done!
ReplyDeleteGreat outfit, love the pants, I would wear that again and again.
ReplyDeleteMy mom still keeps some of my clothes of that time. I too had baggy pants and shoulder-padded jackets. And yeah, I too permed my hair. It is funny to remember those days. You have perfect look for the 80s theme party. Love the pants, so cool!
ReplyDeleteNothing beats 80s music! Those were the hairspray days and yes the shoulder pads in blazers! I lived in acid wash jeans, off shoulder tops and leg warmers in the extreme heat in Manila!
ReplyDeleteI'll say it again that I love your hammer pants. This is an updated 80's look and could pass off as typical attire.
You looked great!!! I do remember the shoulder pads and the oversized jacket that I was wearing together with some bike pants (!) and I thought I was very stylish!!! Thanks for coming to the party!! It was great seeing both of you there!!! xx
ReplyDeleteThe 70's was my decade...I went from the Farrah Fawcett hairstyle to the Stevie Nicks cut. Faded bell bottoms. Gauzy peasant tops. Those bamboo flip flops. Of course, part of my college years was in the 80's so I'm sort of fond of that decade, too! It was a fun time to grow up wasn't it? Thanks for stopping back by. It's nice to be getting back in the swing of things. Debbie @ ilovemylemonadelife.com
ReplyDeleteSo Eighties! You must have had a wonderful time at Pia's birthday ( Let her know that total strangers from far, far away are wishing her a belated Happy Birthday, please.) Of course you can use those pants this summer! Throw on a white or black or any colored T, some pointy d'Orsay flats and you'll look completely current! You look adorable.
ReplyDeleteI was in art school, making big paintings and wearing lots of black. Cyndi Lauper and Adam Ant and Men at Work!
( Sorry I'm so late ... oddly busy week!)
