Saturday Brunch at Cravin' Cajun

Last Saturday, I took one of the twins to attend the launch of Saturday brunch at Cravin' Cajun, one of the restaurants in Novotel Al-Barsha here in Dubai. Captain couldn't come with me as he was in Sydney and I thought it would be a great opportunity for my son (who is thinking of going into PR and Advertising in the near future) to experience a social event like this. I decided to go with a pair of satin silk top and a baggy pants for comfort with no purse or anything of such as I figure there would be a lot of mingling and I didn't want to have anything in my hands but my Samsung for a quick picture or two. Well, it was a good decision, I must say :)

Cravin' Cajun is the first Cajun restaurant in Dubai that serves the famous Creole cuisine from Louisiana.  We are talking about signature dishes like Louisiana Crab Cake, Chicken Gumbo, Pecan Pie and the famous Southern Fried Chicken presented by a team of chefs, lead by Head Chef Jeffery Whitfield, a native Louisiana himself. To complete this Southern experience, the restaurant also features a 3 piece jazz band playing live jazz music that are known to be in close association with Louisiana.

Last Saturday brunch was truly a celebration of Southern cuisine and more.  Not only the menu consisted of a vast range of Creole dishes but also a small mix of other international starters, desserts and cheeses. The cheese and dessert section was so lavish that my son actually said "Ma, where do I start?"

"Well, go with the Pie!" I said, smiling as I thought about the scene in the movie 'The Help'.

Well, I don't know about my son but till today I am still thinking about the Brie En Croute :) from the cheese buffet. It was against my Paleo diet rule but for that I made it an exception. It was so good! Overall it was a fantastic afternoon for me especially when I had the chance to meet some old friends and made a few new ones and for my son, it was an experience that could help him made his decision for his future.

Are you a fan of Southern food? What is your favorite? And if you are a fan and in town or planning to be in town and are craving for some Southern comfort food, you know where to go!

  6. Gorgeous photos - I'm glad you had hands free to eat and photograph!! This is so odd to me to find "my" food in Dubai!!! But I imagine there is every cuisine there. What is even more interesting is that our Cajun food is usually in some shack near a swamp or on the Gulf!!! This is quite fancy, and I imagine it was delicious!
And you of course look amazing and classic and timeless. Beautiful outfit!

    1. Dubai will always have everything on 'steroid'.. bigger the better kind of approach. There's no modesty or such as they will go all out lavish. Kind of nice actually for you to be able to experience the food in the original setting, in my opinion.

  12. Oh my...I have to go eat something now.

When we went to New Orleans we had very high expectations for the food that weren't quite met. I think we both enjoy lighter fare and there is nothing light about the food there.

I love your belt. Très chic!

    1. Yes, I agree. If one wants light, Southern food is not it. I eat light too, but since this was my first experience I gave myself a break and tried a little of the signature dishes and yes, I can confirm, they were NOT light!

  17. I miss a good buffet and this place looks like I can have a great meal and stuff myself silly! We recently visited North Carolina and get to have a sampling of southern food. I was pleasantly surprised how much I like gumbo. I love southern food because it's very similar to ours, I like fried foods even though it's not the best for you.

Great outfit for the brunch. I'm echoing Tiina's comment that it's a relaxed look. Still elegant and chic. White is truly versatile and goes with anything!

I’m trying to build a Miss/Mrs. LookingGood Blog Directory. I would love if you would add your blog to my blog roll. Here’s the link http://goo.gl/7Xqbwb Thanks in advance!

I like the outfit you are wearing a lot and the fact that you chose to wear those down to earth colors! The top and the pants look like they were made for each other! :)

  23. You always rock a white blouse, Ida. Loving those pants and you reminded me that I own a similar pair in that color. Need to bring them out and tuck a white shirt under them.

In my latest Leather and Lace post I thought of you, because you always look amazeballs in a leather jacket. I also co-hosted a link up. I would love for you to link up this gorgeous outfit. Thanks so much.

    Enjoy the weekend, Ada. =)
